Brainstorming

  • Crash course in UbD, using templates
  • Dive into planning, calendar, start planning backward, see where they land
  • Working with Stiggins (p. 31 in packet), Structures of Assessment FOR learning
  • Investigate protocols to use with teachers and kids
  • Mentor Texts - using, sharing
  • An online place to gather/share planning - on intranet, upload what they have at the end of Early Release, preface it's a work in progress so teachers take risk (possibly optional)
  • Developing Essential Question, determining what students will create to demonstrate their understanding
  • Creating choice as to what teachers work on during ER
  • Choices: Mentor texts, Planning backward, Designing space
  • Planning templates, Big Planning doc from SB,
  • "Our Essential Question for today is: _"
  • Debrief - what was great about it, what was difficult about it, what are your next steps?
  • Giving them time to wrestle with it is essential - template, template, template
  • Debrief super important!

Brainstorming Early Release with Sam
  • Many reflection cards stated planning time, real world products, what do assessments look like, what does the end look like?
  • Look at reflection cards by school and that will guide our ER. - time for planning

February 10th, 11th Brainstorming with Sam
  • getting people to take risks and open up the doors to others
  • "Lab setting"
  • Much more meaningful when you can see it in action
  • Most logical next step - lab
  • cohort of teachers watching, those teachers go back to their sites and host a lab (be facilitators)
  • Work on efficacy of Literacy Coordinators as Literacy Coaches
  • Using lab setting- one school, train the trainer.
